St. Michael student wins essay contest

Congratulations to St. Michael grade 6 student Isabela Rocha for winning the Scholars of Guelph essay competition!

Her submission focused on her favourite book “Can't Read, Can't Write, Here's My Book” by Michael Jacques. The author visited St. Michael earlier this year to share his powerful story of overcoming adversity as a young adult with autism and an intellectual disability. Moved by his message of perseverance and resilience, Isabela read his book and submitted an essay titled “Believe You Can Do Amazing Things!”. In her essay, she reflects on how Michael’s journey showed her that “a small action of kindness might change people’s lives”, and that anyone can achieve great things, no matter what the challenges are.

As the first-place winner of the contest, Isabela also received a donation to a meaningful cause at her school which will go towards Special Olympics in Guelph, and the purchase of copies of the book to the school library.
